Who is a Tamada and what does he do?

Tamada takes care of the organization and execution of the entertainment program during the wedding. The bride and groom, their parents and groomsmen have already done enough to prepare for the wedding, so their efforts on the day should be kept to a minimum. Now you should rest and celebrate together with everyone and let the host of your celebration take care of the fun. The Duo Fasol explains who is a tamada.

Why do you need wedding moderation?

A professional tamada should be invited to the wedding at least for this, so that you don’t have to run around the hall yourself and make sure that nobody is bored or offended. An unmoderated wedding banquet can simply resemble a collective feast: everyone eats and drinks, the hum of conversation, maybe some karaoke and some dancing. Unfortunately, as a bridal couple, you will not be able to feel a sense of celebration because you have to think of everything. It is unlikely that anyone will like such a picture. Tamada’s main task is to arrange a real, fun and unforgettable day for the newlyweds and guests.

The presenter receives guests and newlyweds already at the entrance to the hall, invites them to the table and helps them take their places. Already in these first few minutes, the Tamada should create an atmosphere of lightness and relaxation, which should last the whole evening and attract the attention of the guests. We explain the difference between Tamada and a wedding moderator here.

He was supposed to “lead the evening”. This means that he has to feel exactly when it is time to raise his glasses and toast them again, and when he gives the parents of the bridal couple or the guests the opportunity to have their say. The tamada’s duties also include finding a good moment for wedding games and competitions, as well as dancing and talking. He himself should be a role model for the guests not to be ashamed to sing, dance, play musical instruments. He should be able to eliminate the sudden tension between individual guests in good time with a harmless joke. He should infect others with a good mood, enthusiasm and fun.

Characteristics of a good Tamada:

  • he should have a beautiful voice with no speech impediments

  • he needs to be able to improvise instead of looking at the script every five minutes

  • the tamada should be well dressed, neatly cut and combed so that it is pleasant to look at

  • he should have a good sense of humor without vulgarity and rudeness

  • he must always be able to find a way out of any complicated situation

  • the Tamada in North Rhine-Westphalia was not supposed to eat or drink much at the wedding because he was not invited to do so

  • he should feel the mood of the guests, not be too insistent and intrusive
