Celebrating your own wedding in a small group is a modern trend that has been gaining popularity for several years. Celebrating together with just 20-30 guests gives the newlyweds the perfect opportunity to give every loved one the attention they deserve. It also makes you feel freer at your own celebration. We turned to our friend, colleague and expert in the field – Leo from Hochzeitsstern – for advice on how to organise such a wedding celebration so that it runs smoothly and is fun.
Hochzeitsstern is an association of various artists to offer bridal couples the best possible event and wedding entertainment. Wedding moderation, DJs, photo and video teams and much, much more. As an event and wedding presenter, Leo is very familiar with small weddings and is happy to help us answer this question.

A small celebration has some advantages over a big celebration and here are some of them:

As mentioned above, if the wedding is for a small number of guests, you will have a better choice of venues to host the celebration. You can either choose a cafe where you had your first date or rent a small hall in your favorite restaurant.
It’s also possible (and perhaps even recommended) to consider non-typical wedding venues – lofts, wooded areas, beaches. Everything depends on the wedding theme you prefer as a bride and groom.
The format of the small wedding allows you to extend the wedding celebration and experience the best day of your life not just in one day, but in two or three days. For example, on the first day you can visit a restaurant or other venue in the city, and the next day you can leave the city and take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city at a spa complex, by the water or in the forest. Or rent several rooms for your guests for a few nights and organise a complete program in a country hotel.

According to Leo, “The world is your oyster when it comes to finding the right location for your private wedding. You can either hold the ceremony in an unusual location such as a planetarium or organise a beautiful wedding ceremony in nature if the season and outside temperature allow.”
A wedding ceremony with a small number of guests is always very emotional and touching, since only those people who know the newlyweds well and sincerely share the feelings of the newlyweds will be present. You can even hold the civil wedding on a different day than the wedding ceremony so that it doesn’t become too much for you or your guests.

Particular attention should be paid to the evening program so that the celebration does not turn into a banal family dinner. Many bridal couples choose not to have a wedding emcee because they mistakenly believe that a stranger would feel out of place among their loved ones and generally because “wedding games aren’t for us.” A professional wedding presenter knows how to conduct a program at small weddings and will help make the celebration atmosphere more cozy and soulful.
If you decide to create the entire entertainment concept yourself, here are some exceptional examples for you that you can easily organize. A good idea would be to prepare a surprise for guests in the form of live music: these can be musicians performing in the style of jazz, pop and even folk-rock. The main thing is that the newlyweds themselves also like it. To make the evening more active, you can set up a separate area in the festive area for various entertainment options. An interesting idea would be to provide a table for board games that can entertain small groups of guests for a while. The main thing is to choose the games so that they are not too difficult to master for those who do not know them and that the games themselves do not drag on for more than an hour and a half – otherwise the wedding celebration risks lacking dynamism.

A wedding dinner or the buffet is the central part of any celebration and organizing a small wedding must be approached with due attention. If the number of guests does not exceed twenty or thirty people, it is much easier to take into account everyone’s preferences than when organizing a large celebration.
On the invitation cards, it makes sense to ask guests for feedback to find out what alcohol and food they prefer and whether there are any dietary restrictions such as allergies or a therapeutic diet.
Information from wedding guests will help you create a competent menu that takes into account the tastes of different people and allows you to order the right amount of food so that all guests try each dish and at the same time no food is thrown away. For small weddings with under 30 people, it is also recommended to seat all guests at one table so that guests sit close to each other and communicate with each other. This certainly creates a feeling of togetherness.
